Book On Tape Thursdays
I have a very long commute to work - about one hour from door to door. So, in order to make the time pass faster - I rent Books on CD from the library either on post or our nearest public library. I love this - I love my books because I only listen to them in the car, therefore - I am not wasting time away from my studies and it's Taylor Time :) So every Thursday I will talk about the book I am currently listening to. This week is a doosy...this is where it gets somber. So, about three weeks ago I went into the library on post and rented 3 books - I usually do three at a time but for this blog - I will start doing one at a time...anywho, I rented this one:
Goodreads describes it as:
All marriages have a breaking point. All families have wounds. All wars have a cost. . . .Like many couples, Michael and Jolene Zarkades have to face the pressures of everyday life---children, careers, bills, chores---even as their twelve-year marriage is falling apart. Then an unexpected deployment sends Jolene deep into harm’s way and leaves defense attorney Michael at home, unaccustomed to being a single parent to their two girls. As a mother, it agonizes Jolene to leave her family, but as a solider she has always understood the true meaning of duty. In her letters home, she paints a rose-colored version of her life on the front lines, shielding her family from the truth. But war will change Jolene in ways that none of them could have foreseen. When tragedy strikes, Michael must face his darkest fear and fight a battle of his own---for everything that matters to his family.
At once a profoundly honest look at modern marriage and a dramatic exploration of the toll war takes on an ordinary American family, Home Front is a story of love, loss, heroism, honor, and ultimately, hope.
OK, so I was in a rush at the library because I am usually running in there in between getting off work and picking Baby Girl up from daycare- um a 3 year old in a library - NO THANK YOU - anyways - perhaps I should have read the description a bit closer.
This book has made me cry every.single.day. that I have been listening to it. I am an Army Wife and I have been through a rather difficult deployment. My daughter was only 5 months, we had just moved here and my Dad was sick - luckily my Dad was able to see A before he passed away:
(Look Who Learned How to Watermark Her Photos!)
So, my husband was gone, and my Dad died and it was just a hard time- I think that I handled it like a rock star and have so much compassion and understanding for other military spouses who go through the same thing. This book reminded me of that time. Hence, the tears. But not only that - this book touched my heart and would have even if I wasn't an Army Wife - so go check out Kristin Hannah - her personal website is here and no I did not get paid to tell you how awesome her writing is :) Okey dokey - Ill see you all tomorrow :) I hope you all enjoyed Book On Tape Thursday!

I think this is a good idea! I love reading and when you have a busy schedule you gotta do what you gotta do. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteAwwww. I'm so glad that you got pictures of your dad and baby together. I never got to meet my father's father. He passed away long before I was born. These will be so great for your daughter to look back at someday.
